American Factory

In Ohio after the industrial revolution, a Chinese billionaire restores a factory by hiring 2000 Americans. The result is a renewed sense of optimism and hope. But a culture clash ensues as high-tech China and the blue-collar American workers struggle to get along.

The Obamas have a new production company for Netflix, and this week they released a trailer for their first movie, American Factory, which is a documentary about a Chinese factory that opens up in a former General Motors plant in Ohio. The movie is produced by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s new production company Higher Ground and will be available on Netflix on the 21st of August.

American Factory comes along at exactly the right time. The Sundance Film Festival awarded American Factory the Best Documentary Award. Directed and produced by Steven Bognar & Julia Reichert of The Last Truck, Closing a GM Plant fame and a Sundance Film Festival Best Documentary winner.

The Chinese manufacturer who bought a General Motors plant in Dayton, Ohio was able to bring hope and prosperity to the community. However, the factory's presence also brought a clash of culture and a serious look at the prospect of unionization.

They wonder if, as they adjust to the Chinese work culture and expectations of their coworkers they will be able achieve their goals. They also fear being called "inefficient," "sloppy," and "uncommitted."

Wong He, a Chinese furnace operator, speaks about his love of the job and his dedication to it. However, it is hard for him to earn a living. He says that he has to put in long hours and doesn't have much time off to see his family.

He is a member of the China Labor Alliance, a group that works to improve working conditions in China and supports unionization efforts. But his boss does not support unions. He believes that they will make the company inefficient.

This is a very different dynamic to what you will find in America where the management is more concerned with protecting their bottom line. Most American workers don't agree with this, but many companies are following it.

This shift is part and parcel of the new workplace culture, so it's vital to know what that means for you. You shouldn't be defensive about your rights.

There are many people in the United States who believe that their power is becoming more centralized. They are more likely to accept their job does not require them to perform all the time and even willing to work without payment.

Millennials (those born after 1990) will be affected the most by this change in the work place. These millennials have grown up with the one-child policies and are looking for more time outside of their jobs. They don't like to be asked to work overtime, and they don't like it when their boss makes them do so.

FAQ

What is the distinction between Production Planning or Scheduling?

Production Planning (PP) is the process of determining what needs to be produced at any given point in time. This is done through forecasting demand and identifying production capacities.

Scheduling refers to the process of allocating specific dates to tasks in order that they can be completed within a specified timeframe.

Why is logistics so important in manufacturing?

Logistics are essential to any business. Logistics can help you achieve amazing results by helping to manage product flow from raw materials to finished products.

Logistics are also important in reducing costs and improving efficiency.

What is production plan?

Production Planning refers to the development of a plan for every aspect of production. It is important to have everything ready and planned before you start shooting. This document should include information about how to achieve the best results on-set. This information includes locations, crew details and equipment requirements.

The first step is to decide what you want. You may have decided where to shoot or even specific locations you want to use. Once you have identified your locations and scenes it's time to begin figuring out what elements you will need for each one. For example, you might decide that you need a car but don't know exactly what model you want. You could look online for cars to see what options are available, and then narrow down your choices by selecting between different makes or models.

After you have selected the car you want, you can begin to think about additional features. You might need to have people in the front seats. You might also need someone to help you get around the back. You might want to change your interior color from black and white. These questions will help to determine the style and feel of your car. Another thing you can do is think about what type of shots are desired. Will you be filming close-ups or wide angles? Maybe the engine or steering wheel is what you are looking to film. This will allow you to determine the type of car you want.

Once you have made all the necessary decisions, you can start to create a schedule. You will know when you should start and when you should finish shooting. Each day will include the time when you need to arrive at the location, when you need to leave and when you need to return home. So everyone is clear about what they need to do. You can also make sure to book extra staff in advance if you have to hire them. It is not worth hiring someone who won’t show up because you didn’t tell him.

When creating your schedule, you will also need to consider the number of days you need to film. Some projects may only take a couple of days, while others could last for weeks. It is important to consider whether you require more than one photo per day when you create your schedule. Multiple shots at the same location can increase costs and make it more difficult to complete. If you are unsure if you need multiple takes, it is better to err on the side of caution and shoot fewer takes rather than risk wasting money.

Budget setting is an important part of production planning. You will be able to manage your resources if you have a realistic budget. You can always lower the budget if you encounter unexpected problems. However, it is important not to overestimate the amount that you will spend. If you underestimate how much something costs, you'll have less money to pay for other items.

Planning production is a tedious process. Once you have a good understanding of how everything works together, planning future projects becomes easy.

How To

How to Use 5S to Increase Productivity in Manufacturing

5S stands to stand for "Sort", “Set In Order", “Standardize", and "Store". Toyota Motor Corporation created the 5S methodology in 1954. It assists companies in improving their work environments and achieving higher efficiency.

This method has the basic goal of standardizing production processes to make them repeatable. It means tasks like cleaning, sorting or packing, labeling, and storing are done every day. This knowledge allows workers to be more efficient in their work because they are aware of what to expect.

Five steps are required to implement 5S: Sort, Set In Order, Standardize. Separate. Each step has a different action and leads to higher efficiency. For example, when you sort things, you make them easy to find later. You arrange items by placing them in an order. You then organize your inventory in groups. Finally, when you label your containers, you ensure everything is labeled correctly.

This requires employees to critically evaluate how they work. Employees need to understand the reasons they do certain jobs and determine if there is a better way. In order to use the 5S system effectively, they must be able to learn new skills.

In addition to increasing efficiency, the 5S method also improves morale and teamwork among employees. As they begin to see improvements, they feel motivated to continue working towards the goal of achieving higher levels of efficiency.
